UC Riverside Game Notes vs. San Jose State
The Highlanders picked up their first win of the 2009-10 season Thursday evening with an 87-71 win over La Verne as Kyle Austin (25 points) and Larry Gurganious (21) each posted career-highs in the victory.
UCR will try to even its season mark at 2-2 on Sunday when San Jose State comes to the Student Recreation Center at 2 pm PT for their return game from last year’s ESPN BracketBuster match-up. Fans who can't attend the game in person may
listen to the Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, as he calls the action from courtside at gohighlanders.com.
The Highlanders led the Spartans 53-46 with 5:05 left to play last season before the UCR offense went cold. Thankfully the defense picked up the slack and despite not scoring over the final five minutes of play, the Highlanders came away with a 53-52 win.
Austin (15 points), Javon Borum (15) and Jesse LoBue (10) led UC Riverside’s offensive efforts that night and the entire team held San Jose State to just 37.3 percent shooting from the field and 26.3 percent from three-point range.
The Spartans come into Sunday’s contest having split their first two games of the season beating William Jessup 89-63 and falling to No. 14 Washington 80-70. Adrian Oliver scored 32 points in San Jose State’s loss to the Huskies.
