Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season at Cal State Fullerton Tournament

Fullerton, CA - The UC Riverside women's tennis team opened the 2009 fall season on Friday at the Cal State Fullerton Tournament. Five Highlanders took to the courts in singles play while two duos paired up for doubles matches.
In the First Round of the C Flight, freshman Natalie McKay defeated Melanie Abella of Concordia 6-1, 6-2, but in the second round, she was defeated by Hayley Young of UC Irvine 6-2, 5-7, retired for an injury. Also in the Second Round of the C Flight, senior Roxanne Plata (pictured) defeated Julie Hutton of CSU Bakersfield 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles action, Donna McCullough and McKay were defeated 8-1 by a pair of LMU players, while Plata and Angelique Corpuz fell 8-4 to Luzar and Jeczminoka of Long Beach State.
The tournament continues with matches on Saturday and Sunday in Fullerton.
