The UC Riverside Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams begin their seasons this weekend as they head to the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility for the UW Invitational. Four members of the UCR squad who participated in the NCAA West Regional last May are back on the track for the Highlanders this season—Brenda Martinez, middle distance; Chad Hall, middle distance; Lauren Reid (pictured), jumps; and Allison Wilder, jumps. Reid and Wilder are the two members of that foursome attending the UW Invitational as they take part in the triple jump and long jump on Saturday morning.
Kevin Fashola, who was UCR's top male in the 100m and second in the 200m last outdoor season will run the 60m and the 200m at Washington. Sean Ferrera and Marcus Marbrey, the Highlanders top two male returners in the 400m from a year ago will take part in the 400m this weekend as well. On the women's side of the ledger, Karen Han looks to build on her fifth place finish in the Big West from a year ago in the high jump.
Dempsey Indoor is an 80,000-square foot facility which opened in September of 2001. It includes a permanent 307-meter MONDO track (six lanes on the straightaway, five on the oval) and a full 100-yard FieldTurf infield equipped to host the shot put, weight throw, long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault events.
