Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 To Cal Poly Pomona

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside women's tennis team opened the home portion of their 2010 schedule with a 5-2 loss on Thursday afternoon against Cal Poly Pomona at the SRC Tennis Complex.

The Broncos opened up the match by winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the point. The UCR duo of Donna McCullough (pictured) and Nadia Sakhakorn defeated Brady/Blattner 8-3 at the second spot for the lone Highlander doubles win.

In singles, UCR (0-2) fell at the top four flights but garnered victories at the No. 5 and 6 spots. At No. 5, Natalie McKay defeated Kaitlin Wooldridge 6-4, 6-0, and at No. 6, Ayana Simmons defeated Jessica Winkler 6-3, 6-3.

Both Sakhakorn at No. 2 and Angelique Corpuz at No. 3 took their matches to three sets, but neither could prevail in the pivotal last set.

The Highlanders return to the courts to host Occidental College on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11:00 am at the SRC Tennis Complex.
