Brad Pounders was a two-time All-American who helped the Highlanders Baseball Team to the NCAA Division II National Championship in 1981. At the conclusion of his UC Riverside career he owned numerous program records including those for single season (16) and career home runs (30). The San Diego Padres selected him in the third round of the 1984 draft, and Pounders played in the organization through 1988. He clubbed 108 home runs in his minor league career including 35 at Single-A Reno in 1986, and 31 in 1987 when he split time between Reno and Triple-A Las Vegas.
