Dave Roberts graduated from UC Riverside as the men's basketball teams career leader in scoring and rebounding, earning NAIA District 3 All-Star accolades in the 1965-66 and 1966-67 seasons in the process. In 1967, he was named the UC Riverside Athlete of the Year, and he later had a try-out with the Oakland and Denver ABA teams
