A four-year starter for the Highlanders, Doug Sanderson ranked second on UC Riverside's all-time scoring list at 928 points at the time of his graduation and was the program's career leader in assists. He was named co-MVP his senior year and helped lead UC Riverside to the playoffs in his junior and senior campaigns. As an assistant coach for the Highlanders from 1969-1975, Sanderson helped guide those teams to six regional tournaments and three trips to the Regional Championships. He then moved to Cal State University, Stanislaus, where he served as athletic director and men’s basketball coach, and was twice named NCAA West Region Coach of the Year. Sanderson completed his athletics administration career as assistant athletics director of athletics development at UNLV from 1983 through the Rebels' national championship year of 1990.
