Edward J. Blakely was a four-sport athlete for the Highlanders playing on the UCR football, basketball, track & field and rugby teams. He was the team captain and quarterback of the football team during the 1958 and 1959 seasons and earned UC Riverside Athlete of the Year honors in 1959. He went on to receive his masters from Berkeley, a master of management from Point Loma Nazarene and a Ph.D. from UCLA.
