As a player on the UC Riverside men's basketball team, Larry Reynolds helped lead Highlanders to two West Regional Championships and was named California Collegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Player in 1975. At the time of his graduation, he ranked eighth on the UCR all-time scoring list. After receiving his degree from UC Riverside in 1976, he became the Highlanders top assistant basketball coach. During Reynolds's 16 years as an assistant, UCR won seven CCAA titles, received 10 NCAA bids, advanced to the elite eight three times, and finished second in the nation in 1995. He later served as an assistant coach at San Francisco, and would go on to be the head coach at Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Stanislaus and Long Beach State.
