Steve Alvarez earned NCAA Division II All-American honors seven times during his UC Riverside career—four in track and three in cross country. In 1982, he was the NCAA Division II 5,000 meter champion, and he earned the Highlanders Male Athlete of the Year award in 1978-79 and 1979-80.
