UC Santa Barbara 2, UC Riverside 0 - Box Score
Santa Barbara, CA—The UC Riveride Men's Soccer Team knew it had an uphill climb on its hands in trying to secure the fourth and final Big West Conference playoff position needing to not only beat UC Santa Barbara Saturday evening, but also needing to score at least two goals and have UC Irvine defeat Cal State Fullerton. It wasn't to be as the Gauchos scored two goals in the second half for a 2-0 win, ending the Highlanders season.
It wasn't to be as the Gauchos scored two goals in the second half for a 2-0 win, ending the Highlanders season.
The teams played to a scoreless first half tie with UCSB outshooting UC Riverside 7-2 in period. The Gauchos continued to force the issue on offense in the second 45 minutes of play, finally breaking through in the 58th minute as Luis Silva's shot found its way inside the right post.
That goal was inconsequential as UC Riverside needed to score two goals to reach the postseason anyway, but the wind was let out of the team's sails with 18:09 to go as Silva picked up his second score of the night.
The Highlanders finished the season with a 6-11-1 record overall including 3-7-0 in conference. It is the most wins for the team since the 2004 season
