Men's Golf Drops To 19th To Complete Play At Cowboy Classic

Final Results
Scottsdale, AZ - The UC Riverside men's golf team concluded play at the Cowboy Classic on Tuesday afternoon in 19th place out of 24 teams with a three-round 893 (285-300-308) total at Talking Stick Golf Club.
Scott Clayton, who was one shot out of the lead after two rounds of play, had to withdraw in the third round due to illness. The Highlanders were then forced to play 'four-play, four-count' in the last round instead of the typical 'five-play, four-count' format.
Kevin Fitzgerald (pictured) continued his consistent performance for UCR with rounds of 72-72-74 to tie for 36th place with a 218 total. Andrew Patipaksiri also shot three rounds in the 70s with a 73-76-74=223 to tie for 65th.
Rounding out the squad was Tom Lo (74-80-75=229) and Daniel Brainard (74-81-85=240), who tied for 97th and 121st places respectively.
Cal State Northridge won the team title with a one-over-par 841 total, while San Diego finished second at 850, Western Carolina placed third at 854, and Oklahoma and Colorado tied for fourth with identical 856s.
San Diego's Gunner Wieve was the individual medalist with a seven-under-par 203 total.
The Highlanders return to the links to play a 36-hole dual match against Cal State Fullerton on Apr. 22-23.
Second Round
Scottsdale, AZ - The UC Riverside men's golf team completed the second round of play at the Cowboy Classic on Tuesday morning, but fired a 300—15 strokes higher than their first round score—to drop two spots to 14th place out of 24 teams with one round remaining.
The Highlanders 585 (285-300) total is just one shot back of 12th place and five strokes behind ninth place.
Cal State Northridge leads the pack with a two-round 566 while Oklahoma is second at 569 and San Diego (570) rounds out the top-3.
Individually for UCR, senior Scott Clayton is tied for third out of 130 competitors with rounds of 66-72=138. He is just one shot back of the lead as CSUN's Jeff Freund and San Diego's Gunner Wiebe are the individual leaders with a three-under-par 137 total.
Kevin Fitzgerald is the second Highlanders player in the top-20 as he is tied for 19th place after firing identical rounds of 72s to total 144.
Andrew Patipaksiri shot 73-76=149 and is tied for 70th while Tom Lo (74-80=154) and Daniel Brainard (74-81=155) are tied for 100th and 106th respectively to round out the squad.
