Men's Golf Sits In 8th Place After Two Rounds At Big West Championships

Mission Viejo, CA - The UC Riverside men's golf team is tied for eighth place out of nine teams with a two-round 613 score after the first day of competition on Monday at the Big West Conference Championship at Mission Viejo Country Club.
Junior Kevin Fitzgerald (pictured) leads the Highlanders with a one-over-par 145 to tie for sixth place after firing scores of 74-71. He is just one stroke back of fourth place and three behind third place heading into Tuesday's final round of play.
UC Irvine's John Chin leads the pack with a six-under-par 138.
As a team, the Highlanders shot 306-307 to tie with Cal State Fullerton at 613. UCR is just two strokes back of seventh-place Cal Poly (611).
The Anteaters lead all squads with an even-par 576, while Pacific is second with a 591, UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach are tied for third with a 592, and Cal State Northridge (596) is fifth and UC Davis (604) sixth.
Scott Clayton, who was tied for fourth after the first round of play, dropped into a tie for 12th with rounds of 71-77 (148). Andrew Patipaksiri fired identical scores of 77 for a two-round 154 total and is currently tied for 30th place.
Rounding out the Highlanders team is Tom Lo and Robbie Mamo, who are 44th and 45th respectively.
The tournament concludes with an 18-hole round on Tuesday morning. UC Riverside tees off hole number 10 starting at 7:30 AM.
