Fitzgerald Wins Match 3 And 2 To Advance To Round Of 16 At Cal Amateur

After tying for co-medalist honors after two days of stroke play at the 99th Annual California State Amateur Championship, UC Riverside golfer Kevin Fitzgerald won his first match 3 and 2 over Robert Funk on Wednesday to advance to the Round of 16.
Fitzgerald went 1 Up after the first hole and never trailed the remainder of the match as he went 3 Up with two holes to go, winning the match without playing holes 17 and 18.
The senior from Riverside now faces Michael Drake in the Round of 16 on Thursday at 8:10 AM. Drake defeated former Highlanders player Scott Clayton in 20 holes on Wednesday to advance.
