Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside women's cross country team finished in fifth place out of nine squads on Saturday morning at the 2011 Big West Cross Country Championships hosted on UCR's Ag/Ops Course.
The Highlanders had two runners finish among the top-15 in the 6k race led by freshman Raquel Hefflin's 12th place finish in a career-best time of 21:08.3, and Katy Daly's 15th place finish in 21:16.0.
Jaasmin Pina was the third UCR runner to cross the finish line, running the 6k course in 21:22.2 to place 21st. Damajeria DuBose finished 31st with a time of 21:36.5, while Alisha Brown came in 37th at 21:58.4.
Jzsanette Lindstrom and Camila Alvarez finished one place apart with times of 22:33.1 and 22:34.9 respectively to place 46th and 47th. Brittany Reimer rounded out the Highlanders squad in 59th place with a time of 23:13.0.
UC Davis won its first-ever title with 47 points followed closely by Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara with 61 and 62 points.
Cal Poly was fourth with 88 points with the Highlanders totaling 115 points to finish in fifth place. UC Irvine came in sixth with 158, Cal State Fullerton placed seventh with 198 points, Cal State Northridge was eighth with 230 points, and Pacific finished ninth with 281 points.
UC Riverside women's cross country now prepares for the NCAA West Regional Championship in Palo Alto, CA on Saturday, November 12 at 11:00 am.
