Riverside, CA—Anheuser-Busch has teamed up with the UC Riverside Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and chosen women's cross country runner Raquel Hefflin as its September recipient of the "Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport of the Month." Please visit the Budweiser Responsibility Matters web page to view past recipients.
Hefflin was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Assocation (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I women's national athlete of the week (story), as well as the Big West Conference female athlete of the week (story) following her performance at the August 29 Nevada Twilight Classic. Hefflin won the 4k event in a course record time of 14:06, finishing ahead of the second-place runner by 23 seconds.
The senior also helped the Highlanders, who are ranked 13th in the West Region, to a third place finish out of six teams, beating out a UCLA team that is ranked eighth in the most recent USTFCCCA poll. The teams that placed ahead of UC Riverside (Nevada and Utah) are ranked 10th and 7th respectively in the Mountain Region.
