Riverside--The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team out-shot visiting CSUN 15-4 Saturday evening, but the Matadors made the most of their one shot on goal as they escaped with a 1-0 victory.
It was all Highlanders (5-9-1, 1-5-0) in the first as they took seven of the eight shots in the period, and won the corner kick battle four to none. Only two of their shots were on net however, and Matadors' goalkeeper Adam Hobbs turned both away.
It was more of the same in the second, as UCR again dominated the shots column taking eight to just three for CSUN (6-6-2, 2-3-1). But one of the Matadors shots came from their leading scorer, Carlos Gonzales, and found its way past the Highlanders' defense at the 67:00 mark for his fifth goal of the season.
The Highlanders had a great opportunity with 6:48 remaining in the match when Stephen Copley headed the ball out of a scrum in front of the CSUN goal, but the ball bounced off the cross bar, and was quickly smothered.
The Highlanders remain at home this week as they host UC Irvine on Wednesday, October 21 at 7 pm PT.
