Men's Soccer Falls 5-1 To UC Irvine

Riverside--The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team had hopes of climbing the Big West standings Wednesday evening as they welcomed UC Irvine to the Inland Empire, but instead the Anteaters were able to put some distance between themselves and the Highlanders with a 5-1 victory.

With three matches remaining in the regular season, UC Riverside trails UC Irvine by four points in the standings, and the Anteaters now own the head-to-head tiebreaker. If the 'Eaters win one more match, the Highlanders need to run the table to secure a postseason berth. UC Riverside travels to Cal State Fullerton Saturday, while UC Irvine travels to Northridge.

The Anteaters outshot the Highlanders 28-12 on the evening--12-6 in the first and 16-6 in the second. Eduardo Calzada scored a pair of goals for UC Irvine in the win, while Ivan Canales added a goal and an assist.

Ashkan Khosravi was kept busy in the UCR goal the entire night, recording 11 saves. Tyler Miguel scored the lone UC Riverside goal n a penalty kick in the second half.

UC Irvine goalkeeper Michael Breslin was injured in the 61st minute after colliding with a Highlanders defender, and had to be removed from the match. Elliott Farmer played the final 29 minutes and change, keeping the back of the net clean during that span.
