Riverside—UC Riverside's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tamica Smith Jones, today announced the hiring of Rick Todd as head coach of the Men's Golf Team.
"We're delighted to have Rick Todd join the UC Riverside family as the head coach of our Men's Golf program," said Smith Jones. "His track record, particularly at UTEP as a coach, a mentor, and an ambassador in the community, all make him the perfect choice to lead the Highlanders".
Â
"I'd like to thank our search committee, headed by Senior Associate Athletics Director Michael Boele, for their efforts in bringing Coach Todd to the Inland Empire. He and our head women's golf coach, Mary Ritchie, have already started working collaboratively on moving both programs forward, and I can't wait to see what is in store this season and beyond for both of our golf teams."
Rick Todd coached the University of Texas El Paso Men's Golf Team from 1999-2011. His teams advanced to the NCAA West Regional on three occasions, and in 2003, finished one stroke shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Todd also coached a pair of All-Americans while piloting the Miners—Dan Swanson in 2003 and Chris Baryla in 2003 and 2004.
A UTEP graduate, Todd was a three-time All-American as a collegian as well as a four-time, First Team All-WAC selection.
After leaving UTEP, Todd continued working in the golf industry before deciding to return to coaching. He has 12 years experience as a professional golfer, and has played in international events on six continents.
On why he returned to coaching Todd said, "I miss the kids, and helping them be successful in golf and in life.
"I was drawn to UC Riverside because I felt it was the right fit, and I'm excited about the opportunity to recruit Southern California's golf talent to play here."
The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team is on the road this week at the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Caliornia.
