Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer season came to an end Saturday evening with a 2-0 loss to visiting Cal State Fullerton.
The Highlanders honored their five seniors prior to kick off, and with a Big West postseason berth out of reach thanks to Wednesday's loss to CSUN, were at least looking to end their careers with a victory. The Titans had other ideas, however as they locked up the number on seed in the Division earlier in the week, and wanted to exact some payback for a 2-1 overtime loss to UCR two weeks ago.
Ross McPhie put the Highlanders (6-12-1, 2-8-0) in a 1-0 hole in the 10th minute, as he headed Robert Coronado's cross off the left post and over the end line.
With less than four minutes gone in the second half, Coronado again played a part in a Fullerton (11-7-1, 6-3-1) score as Carlos Troncoso deposited his pass into the upper right hand corner of the UCR goal to make it 2-0 Titans.
The Highlanders controlled the ball for the final 20 minutes or so of play, securing seven corner kicks in the second half, but they were unable to dent the back of the net.
