Makau Takes 16th At Stanford Invitational As Women's Cross Country Finishes 9th Out Of 30

Palto Alto, CA—Faith Makau came in 16th place Saturday morning at the Stanford Invitationalas leading the Highlanders Women's Cross Country Team to a ninth place finish out of 30 teams (view results).

Her time of 21:19.3 was 1:12.5 off the pace North Dakota's Erin Teschuk. Weslie Totten finished in 22:25.1, followed by Emil Sanchez (22:40.7), Brianna Simmons (22:45.3) and Dominique Dowell (22:49.8).

Stanford won the women's team title with 44 points, followed by Cal Poly (65) and UC Davis (187).

On the men's side Cody Jordan finished in ninth place leading the team to a 13th place finish out of 30 teams at the 35th annual event (view results).

Jordan's time of 24:04.04 was just under a minute behind the pace set by Stanford's Sean McGorty, whose time of 23:07.0 won the event. Highlanders freshman Solomon Demeku-Ousman came in 27th place with a time of 24:31.6.

Garrett Hernandez (25:47.0), Aaron Nguyen (25:54.4) and Carlos Lopez (26:03.7) rounded out the rest of UC Riverside's top five finishers.

The host Cardinal narrowly took the team title with 63 points, followed by Chico State with 68 and Cal Poly with 100.

UC Riverside is off until October 17 when they host the Highlander Invitational.
