Men's Soccer Clinches Postseason Berth Despite 1-0 Loss To Cal State Fullerton

Highlanders Honor Seniors As Part Of Pregame Celebration

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team dropped a 1-0 decision to Cal State Fullerton Saturday evening, but the Highlanders still clinched a spot in the Big West Tournament thanks to CSUN's 3-1 victory over UC Irvine.

With two matches remaining in the regular season, UCR can finish no lower than third in the South Division. The top three teams in each division make the tournament. One point separates the top three teams in the South, but the Highlanders lose a tie-breaker scenario with the Titans, and dropped a 1-0 decision to CSUN last week.

The Highlanders travel to UC Irvine on Wednesday, October 26, before heading to Northridge to face the Matadors on Saturday, October 29. Both matches kick off at 7 pm PT.

UC Riverside honored its seven seniors prior to Saturday's match, as the Highlanders celebrated the careers of Jacob Arrieta, Cody Catano, Stephen Copley, Philipp Dominique, Luis Iñiguez, Romario Lomeli, and Tyler Miguel.

The lone goal of the match came in the 15th minute of play when Ross PcPhie dumped the ball down into the left corner of UCR's defensive end, and Alex Heilmann beat Highlanders' keeper Vincent Morales to the far post. The Titans defense held tight the remainder of the way, sending UC Riverside to its third straight 1-0 shutout defeat.
