Coaches' Corner: Head Softball Coach Nikki Palmer
11/1/2016 4:01:00 PM | UC Riverside Athletics Association
I began my coaching career volunteering for my alma matter at UCSD. I then spent two years at San Francisco State University where I developed a lot ,and learned a great deal about myself as a coach. I then spent a year at Utah State, two years at Weber State and then was hired as the head coach at Utah Valley University. I was at UVU for three years when UCR called, and I knew it would be a perfect fit.Â
Â
To me, UCR is a dream job. Getting the call from Janet Lucas to offer me the job! I am still pinching myself that I am blessed with this opportunity. I grew up 30 miles from campus and I am a UC graduate. The Big West is one of the top conferences in softball and I am so blessed to be able to coach in this conference.
The culture that exists in the UCR softball program amazing and truly sets this team apart. My vision for this team is to get to the women's college world series! The Athletics Association can help us get to the world series by supporting us in our games and fundraising goals.
We want UCR softball to be a beacon for recruits within our conference. We are already working on facility improvements to bring the "wow" immediately when you walk into Amy S. Harrison stadium. We want to create a fan base that is loyal and well supported. Let's start the 10th man!Â
Â
One of the cultural foundations of our team is "tradition." To me, a part of that means knowing where you come from. It is our intention as a coaching staff and team to involve the alumni in a big way. Part of this will be giving back to those before us. We also want to respect and represent UCR well in everything we do, hopefully we can continue to give back to the University by being the front porch of the University.Â
