Men's Soccer Ties UC Santa Barbara, 2-2

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team led visiting UC Santa Barbara, 2-0, Thursday evening, but the Gauchos were able to even the score and escape with a 2-2 draw.

The Highlanders' leading scorer, Romario Lomeli, put UCR on the board just before intermission when he chipped a Raul Guerrero pass over UCSB keeper Titouan Le Roux's head, and into the back of the Gauchos' net.

Lomeli played a role in UC Riverside's second goal as well, finding Tyler Miguel on the end of a free kick in the 66th minute to put the Highlanders up 2-0.

Less than four minutes later, Santa Barbara sliced the lead in half when Nick DePuy headed a Josue España cross past Vincent Morales.

Still leading, 2-1, UC Riverside (5-4-1, 0-0-1) appeared to have the match in hand when the Gauchos' Lamar Batista picked up his second yellow card of the match. That gave the Highlanders a man advantage over the final 5:31 of regulation.

Despite playing 10 against 11, UC Santa Barbara (4-5-1, 0-0-1) was able to tie the score in the 87th minute when Kevin Feucht curved his free kick over UCR's wall, and into the upper left hand corner of the goal.

The score remained tied throughout the two overtime stanzas, ending in a 2-2 draw.

The Highlanders remain at home this weekend, hosting Cal Poly on Saturday, October 1 beginning at 7 pm PT.
