Men's Soccer Comes Away With 1-1 Draw At Fullerton

Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team (2-12-1, 2-5-1) came away with one point in its road conference finale Saturday night, drawing 1-1 with Cal State Fullerton (8-6-3, 3-3-2). Freshman midfielder Daniel Aguirre put away his first career goal in the 70th minute to give the Highlanders the lead. After maintaining a shutout for nearly the entire match though, UCR conceded the tying goal with just 93 seconds remaining.

MATCH NOTES
With just two matches to go before the postseason begins, UC Riverside now has seven points. That trails UC Irvine (8) by a single point for the No. 3 seed in the Big West South Division and a spot in the first round of the Big West Tournament on Wednesday, November 1. The Highlanders will play Irvine at home on Wednesday, October 25 in their second-to-last match of the regular season.

With its first tie of the season, UCR becomes the last Big West to earn a draw in 2017. The Highlanders' hadn't earned a draw in 24 consecutive outings, with the most recent one coming in a 2-2 stalemate against UC Santa Barbara on September 29, 2016 (box score/recap).

The Highlanders allowed five shots on goal for Fullerton, just one off their season-low during Big West play. UC Riverside's conference season-low for shots on goals allowed is four, set against UC Davis on October 7 (box score/recap).

Aguirre led the Highlanders with two shots on goal and three shots overall, both marks setting career-highs. Prior to Saturday's game, the freshman had tallied six shots and two shots on goal in 13 appearances this season.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Vincent Morales had four saves on the night. It was his eighth consecutive match with four or more saves, the longest streak of his career.
