Fullerton, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team (5-13-1, 4-5-1) fell just short in its Big West Tournament Semifinal at Cal State Fullerton (10-7-3, 4-4-2) on Saturday night, as the Titans answered a second half Highlander comeback to take a 2-1 victory.
GAME NOTES
After trailing 1-0 heading into halftime, freshman midfielder
Daniel Aguirre's penalty in the 58th minute brought the Highlanders level at one goal apiece. The Big West All-Freshman teamer finished the year with at least one point in four of the Highlanders' last five matches, notching two goals and two assists over that span.
The Highlanders continued to build on their momentum early in the second half, with Aguirre's goal being followed shortly after by a red card for Fullerton's Corentin Ohlmann in the 63rd minute. That was the second red card of any UC Riverside opponent this season.
The loss marks the second time ever that the Highlanders have been knocked out in the Big West Tournament Semifinals. They previously reached the semis as the Big West South Division's number one seed in the 2014 season.
The defeat also ends UC Riverside's four-game unbeaten streak. With three consecutive wins and a tie prior to Saturday night, the Highlanders had tied the program's fourth-longest unbeaten streak ever against Big West competition.
