NORTHRIDGE, Calif.- Wednesday night, the UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team earned its 3rd Big West victory as the Highlanders shutout CSUN 1-0 on the road,
UCR's defense held tough all night as the Matadors put up 17 shots and not one found the net. Junior
Edwyn Gutierrez delivered another clean sheet collecting seven saves on the night.
The Highlanders broke the tie early in the match as sophomore
Daniel Aguirre placed a pass perfectly from deep to
Edward Benito who then fired in his 3rd goal of the season to give UCR a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute.
The Highlanders would hang on to this lead for the next 81 minutes to move into 2nd place in the Big West standings with 9 points. They now only trail the undefeated Anteaters of UC Irvine.
UC Riverside has just two matches left in the regular season as the Highlanders will head to Sacramento State this Saturday before hosting Cal State Fullerton next week for senior day.
