RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The Big West playoff picture is set as the UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team tied Cal State Fullerton Saturday night in its final regular season matchup. A 0-0 draw with the Titans clinched the 2nd seed and a first-round bye in the Big West Tournament for the Highlanders on Senior Day.
UCR will open up the Big West Tournament in the semi-final round on Saturday, November 3rd at 7:00 PM. The Highlanders will face the winner of Wednesday's matchup between Cal State Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara.
The draw between the Highlanders and Titans was evenly matches as both teams put up 10 shots and neither team allowed a single score.
The 1st half saw much of the possession battle belonging to the Highlanders but the Titan defense would hold tough denying the Highlanders' six shots. Both teams would put up four more shots in the 2nd, but none would land forcing two scoreless overtime periods that only saw one shot by the Titans.
Sophomore
Roberto Garcia-Vargas and senior
Antonio Lokossou landed the only shots on goal for UCR and junior keeper
Edwyn Gutierrez added three saves on the night.
The seniors played their final regular season match Saturday night, but the post season is just beginning as the Highlanders return to the UCR Soccer Stadium this Saturday for the semi-final round.
