COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— After tying for 2nd place in a qualifying match just two days ago, UCR's Men's Golf Head Coach Rick Todd will compete in the 39th U.S. Senior Open at the Broadmoor Golf Club. The four-round tournament is set to tee-off on June 28th and will conclude July 1st.
It has been nearly 20 years since Coach Todd has competed at the professional level as his last tournament played was the Bell Canadian Open in September of 1999. This will be his first time competing in the Senior PGA Tour.
"Our student-athletes actually talked me in to it," Coach Todd said. "They really pushed me to attend the qualifier and worked with me before the round. I even had one of them caddy for me."
Todd truly earned this spot in the prestigious tournament shooting par (72) in the qualifying match at the Crystalaire Country Club in Llano, Ca. Only three players were selected from a pool of 100 and eight players ended tied for 2nd, forcing an eight-man playoff. The playoff would be decided in just one hole as six players posted par or worse, while Coach Todd made birdie.
"I have no expectations, but I am excited to get out and compete again." Coach Todd said.
The 2018 U.S. Senior Open will be held on the East Course at the Broadmoor Golf Club, a prestigious 72 par course in Colorado Springs, Co that runs 7,355 feet. Broadcast coverage of all four rounds will air live on FS1 and Fox Sports Go.
