Men's Soccer Blanks San Diego 2-0

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team earned it's second straight win Friday night downing San Diego 2-0 on the road for its second shutout of the season.

The Highlanders got off to a quick start taking a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute as  Daniel Castaneda buried a shot in the left corner of the net. The freshman has now scored in each of the last two matches.

In the 70th minute, UC Riverside would strike again as sophomore Daniel Aguirre hit a breakaway to beat his defender and drove a ball passed the outstretched goal keeper.

Behind a tremendous performance from the back line all night the Highlanders would hold and keep the Toreros scoreless to emerge with a 2-0 victory. San Diego only register five shots in the match, two of which were on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Edwyn Gutierrez added two saves in his second shutout.

The Highlanders will now bring the momentum home as they open up conference play this Wednesday hosting UC Irvine at the UCR Soccer Stadium.
