Top Finishes in Several Events

Northridge, Calif. – The University of California, Riverside (UCR) men's and women's track and field were in action today at the CSUN "Matador Invitational". The four team invite, though high in competition, did not tally team scores. On the individual front, the Highlanders boasted many new seasons' best and lifetime best marks.
Â
"This was a small invitational, which really brings us back to the foundations of track and field; small fields of athletes, not overly worried about marks and times, but working towards competing against each other. Learning how to compete will be very important for our athletes as we move towards the post season, just a few short weeks ahead," Assistant Coach Rob Hansen commented on the day.
Â
Some of the highlights for the UCR Blue and Gold were:
Â
-        Andrew Jackson won the men's 400m dash with a lifetime best 48.10 seconds. He is now ranked 7th in the Big West Conference and #7 on the UCR All-Time list. (He is currently 3rd at 800m)
-        Delaney Harris won the women's 100m dash in a lifetime best 12.31 seconds. That time ranks her 8th best in the Big West Conference in 2021. Â
-        Daisy Romero finished 2nd in the 800m run. She earned a lifetime best 2:18.03, cutting more than a second off of her previous best that she earned last week at the Bryan Clay Invite. Â
-        Quinn Williams finished 2nd in the women's 400m Hurdles with a season best time 54.83. His time keeps him ranked 9th in the Big West.
Â
Next week UCR and Long Beach State will be hosting a dual location competition as the final tune up before the Big West Championships (May 13th – May 15th).
On Thursday April 29th UCR will host distance events starting at 6pm.  Friday April 30th, UCR will host sprint, hurdle and relay events beginning at 1pm. Both days events will be live streamed. Link will be available later this week on www.BigWest.TV.
