FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - UC Riverside competed in the Ron Mann Invitational at Northern Arizona on Friday with an overall team performance that helped the Highlanders' trajectory towards the MPSF Championships.
It was the team's second trip to NAU in the early indoor season after competing in the Lumberjack Team Challenge to open the season.Â
"We were able to make some more steady progress on our march towards the MPSF Championships," head coach Nate Browne said. "We had several who competed in an indoor meet for the first time, and that certainly comes with its growing pains."
Delaney Harris, Bianca and Brooke Young, Makenna Harris and Kami Signo-Hawkins all ran season bests in the 60m while Chudney McGehee and Aleeza dropped their season bests in the prelims. Harris also set a season best in the 200m with 25.66.Â
Anthony Reyes won the triple jump at 14.26m, a new indoor best, to enter the program's top 10 all time.Â
Liam Carr clocked in at an altitude-adjusted 49.60 400m to rank 10th in school history, while Andrew Jackson put up a new indoor best in his with 48.42. Carr also set a new indoor best with a 22.56 in the 200m.
SPOKANE, Wash. – UC Riverside completed the first day of the Washington State Open held in Spokane, Washington with an equally impressive performance that included top marks from Highlander cross country runners.Â
Duo cross country student-athlete Collette Lowengrub ran a 5:06.94 in her collegiate mile debut, while Dariana Miramontes ran a 5:11.35 in hers. Carolinh Calvert entered the program's top 10 with a 5:01.73. Lowengrub also went sub-10 in her 3000m debut at 9:58.12.Â
Staying in the realm of cross country runners, Linda Perez set the UCR indoor 5000m record with a 16:45.98. Calvert also entered the top 10 17:31.68.Â
On the men's side, Josh Mendoza clocked in at 4:29.20 in his first collegiate mile. Brian Nnoli also put in a 14.37m triple jump to clock in at seventh in school history.Â
The Highlanders will wrap up the WSU Open on Saturday and enjoy a two weeks off before the MPSF Championships in Spokane February 18 and 19.
