RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside hosted the annual Chris Rinne Twilight Meet on Friday at the UC Riverside Track Stadium with big results in the midst of a banner year for the program.
Shiloh Corrales-Nelson set two season bests and came .01 meters from a third, putting up new bests in the hammer throw (53.29m) and discus throw (43.04m). Julian Read also came ever so close to a new season high, sporting a 3.95 in the men's pole vault. The junior also turned in a 6.36m in the long jump.
UCR put up big numbers on the men's and women's side of the javelin throw, with Juliana Base notching a season-best 32.00m and JT Ober III taking first with a 64.98 to shatter his old school record set in 2019. Ober also put up a 50.38m in the discus throw.
The Highlanders also found major success in the triple jump. Jessica Onwu set a new season high with an 11.29m, and the men claimed three of the top four spots led by Anthony Reyes (14.41m), Calvin Black (14.27m) and Brian Nnoli (14.18m). UCR's men's triple jump team recently checked in at number four on the USTFCCCA Division I triple jump rankings.
Anthony Reyes won the long jump on the men's side with a 6.91m, besting the previous season high set by Cameron Lewis at the Vince O'Boyle Classic.
Relay squads put up top notch performances at the Rinne Twilight, especially in the 1600. UCR's 400 women's squad of Chudney McGehee, Delaney Harris, Kenady Jackson, Aleeza Roy and Brooke Young took second with a 47.65 to beat their previous season best by .22 seconds, and the 1600 tandem of Saniyah Starks, Delaney Harris, Sierra Sutton, Jordan Cornet and Bianca Young took second in 4:01.48.
The men's 1600 team of Reggie Day, Andrew Jackson, Mateo Joseph, Liam Carr, Musashi Avalos and Quinn Williams placed second in 3:22.70.
Keeping in line with individual women's track performances, Starks placed fourth in the 400 with a 57.20 for a season best while UCR had two top-five finishers in the women's 800 in Cornet (2nd/2:18.00) and Dariana Miramontes (4th/2:18.95). Samantha Velasquez also won the 1500 with a 4:40.63 for the first event win of her career.
UC Riverside grabbed the top two spots in the men's 5000, led by Noah Murasmith (1st/14:40.89) and Ashraf Abdelmagid (2nd/14:51.74).
UCR will split next weekend between two meets, heading to the Adidas Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine and the Fresno State Invitational.
