Men’s Soccer Secures Big West Postseason Berth with Draw vs. CSUN

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside locked up its third consecutive Big West postseason berth on Saturday night with a 0-0 draw against CSUN at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • All four of UCR's first half shots came from long range, including two from Lukas Juodkunaitis, who was named to his second starting XI this season in his 15th appearance. Juodkunaitis claimed the squad's only shot on goal in the first half, an attempt in the 18th minute to the lower right of the net.
  • Wes Hastings was the Highlanders' lone sub of the opening 45 minutes, entering the match in the 37th minute and letting a shot go in the 38th.
  • Edward Castro logged 30 minutes as a substitute, but was a critical piece of UC Riverside's attack down the right side as the Highlanders continually threatened to break the deadlock.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Carlos Gonzalez recorded his 14th career clean sheet in the regular season finale.
  • Just in front of Gonzalez was a stellar back line performance that allowed just 10 shots, the second fewest for a Highlander opponent this season.

UP NEXT

  • UC Riverside will start its quest for another Big West postseason title next week, traveling to No. 3 UC Santa Barbara as the six seed. Kickoff from Harder Stadium is scheduled for Wednesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m.
