Highlanders Drop Road Contest at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. - A second-minute goal did in UC Riverside on Thursday night, as the Highlanders dropped a 1-0 decision to Pacific at Knoles Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UC Riverside ping ponged the ball around the box in the 30th minute, but Armando Ibarra Jr.'s soft shot would not find the net. 
  • Brendan Clark centered a ball for Andrew Alexander in the 43rd minute that crossed through the box. 
  • UC Riverside came out with offensive urgency for the second straight match, as Noah Lopez fired a shot in the 48th minute that just missed the far post.
  • Clark stood over a free kick in the 61st minute, but the inswinger was punched out of the way of the far post. UCR was dispossessed on the ensuing throw-in. Ibarra Jr. threw a left-footed cross into the box in the 70th minute with no one on the receiving end. 
  • The Highlanders went a man up in the 71st minute as Pacific was handed a second yellow in the midfield. Clarked checked back in a minute later as UC Riverside would press for an equalizer. 
  • Christian Ceja won a free kick just outside the 18 in the 75th minute, but Clark sailed it over the bar. 
  • UCR kept the ball in the final third in the 85th minute, leading to the Highlanders' first two corners of the night. 

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jackson D'Alessandro was named to his first UCR starting XI on Thursday night, logging 86 minutes. Ethan Walker made his collegiate debut on Thursday with four minutes off the bench. 
  • Ibarra Jr. led UCR with three attempts on the night, two of which came from close range inside the box.
