Highlanders and Lions Draw, 1-1

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Highlanders welcomed LMU to the UCR Soccer Stadium, as the non-conference schedule winds down. UCR entered the match coming off a tough 3-2 loss to Northwestern last week. LMU entered the match off a 1-0 loss at CSUN on Thursday night.

The Lions got on the board first as Ismail Nieves put it in the lower left corner past a diving Andrew Hermosillo.

With the 1-0 lead in hand, the Lions kept up the pressure, but UCR held firm. The Highlander had a tough time getting shots on target in the first.

At the start of the second the Highlanders upped the pressure. They eventually got on the board when Jackson D'Alessandro found Wyatt Ponting on a beautiful cross to tie the game at 1-1 in the 50'.

The score held for the remaining 40 minutes. With about 20 seconds left in the game UCR had a chance but Jona Martinez hit the crossbar.

With the 1-1 draw the Highlanders record sits at 2-3-2. Their final non-conference game will be on Friday night as UCR hosts crosstown rival CBU at 7PM.
