Highlanders Finish Third at Fresno State Classic Behind Strong Rounds from Duarte, Andaya

FRESNO, Calif. — The Highlanders delivered one of its strongest finishes of the spring, placing third at the Fresno State Classic after three rounds at Fort Washington Golf & Country Club.
The Highlanders carded rounds of 300, 302 and 296 to finish with a team total of 898, securing a podium finish behind Pepperdine and Cal Poly in the nine-team field.
Mitzi Duarte led the Highlanders with a tie for fourth-place finish at even-par 216. Duarte opened the tournament with a 73 before firing a 71 in the second round and closing with a steady 72 to remain among the tournament leaders.
Janna Andaya followed with a tie for 14th at 9-over 225. After an opening-round 83, Andaya bounced back with consecutive rounds of 71 to climb the leaderboard and give UC Riverside a second top-15 finish.
Maleyna Gregorio added a tie for 25th at 14-over 230 after rounds of 77, 78 and 75. Sophia Soto finished tied for 46th at 236, while Ivy Kim rounded out the Highlander scoring at 246.
UC Riverside also had two individuals compete, with Riley Shin tying for 35th at 232 and Lauren Lee finishing 40th at 233.
Pepperdine claimed the team title with an 853, while the Waves' Eunseo Choi captured medalist honors at 6-under 210.
The Highlanders head to Wyoming Tuesday, April, 7th to compete in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.Â
