UCSD Defeats UCR in The Big West Championship

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -Â No. 7 UC Riverside took on No. 6 UC San Diego in the first round of The Big West Championship today at the Barnes Tennis Center. This was the second straight meeting between the two teams as the Highlanders ended their regular season against the Tritons a week earlier. UC San Diego defeated UC Riverside, 4-0.

How it happened
- The Tritons took the doubles point, 2-0 this afternoon with Lucas Ibarrondo Suarez and Lucas Mszyca's match going unfinished. They trailed 6-5.
- In singles competition the three Highlander matches that went unfinished were all in the third set. Ivaylo Simeonov was able to force a third set where it was tied 1-1.
- Andrew Lavine and Michael Chang also went into the third set and both led at the time of the match being called.
- The loudest match of the afternoon featured Owen Pearson. Even though he fell in straight sets the second set was back and forth and went to an exciting tie breaker.
