Big West champion finishes fifth in women’s triple jump in Eugene
EUGENE, Ore. - Chelsea Aninyei capped off one of the most iconic individual seasons in UC Riverside Track & Field history on Saturday at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
Aninyei opened the night with a 13.38m/43' 10.75", well past her Big West championship-winning mark last month at Long Beach State. She later recorded what at the time became her third-best jump of her collegiate career on her third attempt, jumping 13.38m/43' 10.75".Â
The Bellflower native saved her best attempt for last, recording a monstrous collegiate best of 13.52m/44' 4.50". The mark shattered both her school and Big West record, and secured UCR its first outdoor All-American selection since Brenda Martinez's 2009 runner-up finish in the 1500m.Â
Aninyei's road to the national championships began with a Big West-winning 13.04m/42' 9.50" at Long Beach State, followed by a then-conference-record 13.48m/44' 2.75" at the NCAA West Prelims.Â
