Brave Scots Fight Song
In celebration of the Highlanders move to NCAA Division I in 2001-02, UCR Pep Band Director Bill Helms wrote a new fight song to be played at UCR sporting events. He then organized a contest to find the perfect lyrics to his new tune and encouraged his friend Tom Morrow to give it a shot. They were classmates at UCR in the 1970s and played side by side in the pep band.
Helms received 144 entries, some bad, some good, but in the end it was Morrow's lyrics that won the contest. The pep band will play the song, “Brave Scots,” at basketball games and other athletic contests.
