GAME NOTES:

David Swing, age 26, was scheduled to start for UC Riverside, but he left the team prior to the first game to concentrate on his academics as he was studying to become a lawyer. We are trying to determine who started in his place.

Judge John G. Gabbert, of the Riverside County Superior Court, threw up the ceremonial jump ball (photo).

Wayne Saffel scored the first points in the history of the UC Riverside Men's Basketball program with a free throw with 1:39 gone in the first half (photo).

Dwain Lewis led the Highlanders in scoring with 12 points. He would go on to become an assistant coach as well as head coach at UC Riverside, compiling a 47-30 record from 1966-69.

Field goal attempts weren't kept for this game. Neither were individual free throw attempts, but team free throw attempts were.
