Diego Bocanegra joined the Highlanders' men's soccer staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2002.

Bocanegra, who is the brother of the 2000 MLS Rookie of the Year, Carlos Bocanegra of the Chicago Fire, and of the US National Team, will assist in overseeing the field plaers with an emphasis on attacking forwards and midfielders.

Bocanegra earned his bachelor's degree in liberal studies with an emphasis in biology from Fresno State University in 1997.

In 1993, Bocanegra began his collegiate career at Grand Canyon University, leading the team in assists with four. In 1994, he was named CCAA All-Conference, and was selected to the GCU Valley of the Sun All-Tournament Team. Bocanegra then transferred to UCLA in 1995. He subsequently transferred to Fresno State to finish his education.

He began his coaching career as the assistant men's soccer coach at Pomona-Pitzer under Head Coach Bill Swartz from 1999-2002.

Bocanegra gradated from Alta Loma High in 1993 where he lettered in four sports. He was named CIF Offensive Player of the Year in 1993, and was named All-CIF in his junior and senior seasons. Bocanegra's soccer awards also included the Mt. Baldy League MVP title in 1993. His football honors include an All-Conference Award in 1992.

Bocanegra was a member of the 1991 National Champion Alta Loma Arsenal Club soccer team, as well as the 1990 Dallas Cup Championship squad.

Bocanegra, who is single and resides in Rancho Cucamonga, holds his USSF B and NCAA Advanced coaching licenses. He also enjoys playing an array of sports in his spare time.
