Frederica Bush

Assistant Track & Field Coach Frederica Bush joined the Highlander’s staff in July, 1999 as the throwing coach and has been instrumental in the development of the UCR throwing program.

A graduate of Bonita High School, Bush earned All-American honors in the shot and discus in 1989-90 and in 1991-92 in the discus at CSU Bakersfield. In 1992 she won the national championship and set the Division II record in the shot put with a 53' 3" effort. Also in 1992 she placed ninth in the Olympic Trials with a throw of 54' 2". She went on to compete for the Mizuno Cheetaz track club and placed 12th in the discus in the 1996 Olympic Trials.

Bush earned her bachelor's degree in mass communications in 1992 from CSU Bakersfield and in 1997 earned a master's degree in education from the Claremont Graduate School.

Prior to coming to UCR, Bush coached at Norco High School, Gary High School and Wasco High School.

In addition to coaching, she is also a third grade teacher. In her free time, the Riverside native enjoys working in her yard and playing with her dogs, Killer and Diva. She and her husband, William, reside in Riverside.
