Ken Simons

Ken Simons has been a member of the UCR Track & Field staff since 1999, working with the sprinters and relay teams.

Simons was an All-American at UC Riverside in 1979 and was a member of the school record-holding 4x100 relay team that set the mark of 40.62 in that same year. He was also on the 4x400 team that held the school record of 3:14.82 until it was broken in 2002.

A 1977 graduate of Moreno Valley High School, Simons was the San Andreas League champion in the 100-yard dash from 1975-77 and the champion in the 440 in 1976 and 77. He also won the 1977 Riverside All-City Championship in the 440 and the CIF 2-A championship in the 440 in 1977. Simons abilities also extended to the basketball court where he was a member of the 1976 and 1977 SAL Basketball Championship teams.

Simons earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from UC Riverside in 1983, and currently works at UCR as the director of African student programs.

Simons and his wife, Mary, have two children, Sarinah and Marcus, and reside in Riverside. In his free time he enjoys camping, fishing, golfing and running.
