Tim Bross heads into his second season as the lead assistant coach with UC Riverside men’s basketball after joining Gus Argenal’s staff for the 2025-26 season. Bross oversees key elements of the team including recruiting, game scheduling, program administration, and academics. The Highlanders earned a 3.09 cumulative GPA during the 2025-2026 school year.
A trusted advisor to Argenal, the two enter their fourth season together following two highly successful seasons at nearby Cal State San Bernardino. In addition to his main responsibilities, Bross also provides crucial insight and guidance in the areas of tactics, strategy, opponent scouting, and fundraising.
“Tim is one of the best coaches on the West Coast. He brings head coaching experience, elite recruiting ties, and a tireless work ethic,” said coach Argenal. “He embodies the character that a mentor to our student-athletes should exhibit. His ability to connect, lead, and coach will make the entire athletic department better. Together we have won championships, raised banners and changed academic standards – I am lucky to have him by my side.”
A proven recruiter and developer of talent, Bross brings nearly a decade-and-a-half of coaching experience across the Division I, II, and III levels, including three seasons as a collegiate head coach.
With his strengths as a tactician and skills coach on full display during the 2025-2026 season, Bross helped junior transfer Marqui Worthy make powerful strides as a shooter and scorer on his way to earning All-Big West Honorable Mention. Worthy was among the most improved players in the nation, nearly tripling his scoring output from the 2024-2025 season (5.8 pts) to the 2025-2026 campaign, when Worthy averaged 16.4 points per game and ranked sixth in the Big West for scoring. He also improved his 3-point shooting percentage by nearly 20 points, shooting 33.1% from 3 during 2025-2026 (49-148 3FG) up from 14.3% during the 2024-2025 season (5-35 3FG)
Bross also continued his mentorship of Andrew Henderson, an All-Big West Second Team selection. Henderson, Bross, and Argenal spent the 2024-2025 season together at Cal State San Bernardino, a campaign in which Henderson averaged 17.3 points per game. The transition to the Division I level did not result in a dip in performance for Henderson, as he increased his scoring average to 18.1 points.
Prior to joining UC Riverside, Bross spent two seasons as the lead assistant at Cal State San Bernardino, helping guide the Yotes to historic success. During his tenure, CSUSB posted a 50-20 overall record, won the 2024 CCAA Regular Season and NCAA Division II West Region Championships, and advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four.Â
As CSUSB’s recruiting coordinator, Bross assembled an impressive two-year class of 20 players that produced four All-CCAA First Team selections, one Second Team honoree, an All-CCAA Honorable Mention, the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year, the 2024 NCAA West Region Tournament Most Valuable Player, and an All-American. His efforts also contributed to the team achieving a 3.09 cumulative GPA and raising more than $50,000 in external support.
Before his time at CSUSB, Bross served as head coach at Cal Maritime from 2020–23, leading the Keelhaulers to back-to-back postseason appearances while mentoring multiple all-conference selections. He also made impactful stops as an assistant coach at the University of Redlands, Chaminade University, Hawaii Pacific University, and the University of Hawaii. Across his career, Bross has recruited and coached more than 35 all-conference players and nearly 30 student-athletes who went on to sign professional contracts.
Bross resides in Southern California with his wife, Crista, and children Lee and Makana.
