Highlanders Drop Second Straight 1-0 Big West Decision

The UC Riverside men's soccer team's offensive drought continued Wednesday evening, as they dropped a second consecutive 1-0 decision to a conference opponent, this time on the road at Cal Poly.
Since exploding for six goals in two games at the UNLV Nike Invitational in mid-September, the Highlanders have been held to three goals in five matches. The team's defense has been nearly equal to the task holding the opposition to just six goals during that span, but the Highlanders' inability to find the back of the net left them with a 3-7-1 record (0-2-0 in conference) with nine games to play.
Cal Poly (7-3-2) controlled the action during the first period outshooting UCR 14-3 before the half, but the Highlanders held tight heading into the locker room with the score still tied at zero. The Mustangs finally broke through with nearly 16 minutes gone in the second as Julian Alvarez picked up his fourth goal of the season for the lone score of the game.
The Highlander return to Riverside for just their second home game of the year on Saturday, October 11 at 7 pm.
