Highlanders Compete On Day One At ITA West Regionals

San Diego, CA - Members of the UC Riverside women's tennis team competed on day one at the ITA West Regionals on Thursday in San Diego. Two Highlanders competed in singles play while a duo of athletes participated in doubles.
In the first round of singles play, UCR's Roxanne Plata (pictured) had a bye and moved on to the Round of 64 against Julia Trunk of San Diego State, but fell 6-0, 7-5.
Freshman Taylor Raney moved on to the Round of 64 after her opponent withdrew due to injury. In the second round, she was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by April Bisharat of UC Irvine.
In doubles action, the pair of Plata and Raney received a bye in the first round but lost an 8-1 match to Bryon and Hammel of UC Irvine.
Consolation singles and doubles play continues on Friday morning.
