Palm Desert, CA - The UC Riverside men's golf team concluded play on Tuesday at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in 13th place out of 16 squads, just one stroke back of being tied for 10th with three other school and four strokes out of ninth place. The Highlanders shot a consistent 303-297-300 for a three-round 900 total.
Final Results
Santa Clara held on for the team tournament title firing a three-round 872, while Cal State Northridge (876) finished second, Nebraska (877) and host Wyoming (877) tied for third, and Denver (882) finished fifth.
UCR's 900 team score was one back of UC Santa Barbara, Texas El Paso, and Weber State, all of whom shot 899 to tie for tenth.
The Highlanders top finisher was sophomore
Tom Lo (pictured), who played as an individual and shot a two-over-par 218 to tie for tenth overall and finish tied for first among individuals whose scores did not count towards their teams score.
After being tied for fifth heading into the final round of play, senior
Scott Clayton shot 78 in the third round to lose ground and finish tied for 15th with a 219 total score.
Kevin Fitzgerald consistently lowered his scores each round, carding a 76-75-73=224 to tie for 30th.
Andrew Patipaksiri was a stroke behind Fitzgerald, finishing tied for 36th with a three-round 225 (76-77-72).
Robbie Mamo (81-74-77=232) tied for 70th while
Matt Fitzgerald (81-81-79=241) tied for 87th.
Wyoming's Gabe Maier took home individual medalist honors with an eight-under-par 208 (70-68-70).
The Highlanders return to the links on Oct. 22-23 at the Del Walker Invitational in Long Beach, CA.
First & Second Rounds

Scott Clayton (pictured) is currently in fifth place after the opening two rounds of the second annual University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Monday at the Classic Club, firing a three-under-par 141 (70-71). He is just three strokes off the leader, Gabe Maier at six-under-par, as the tournament concludes with a final 18-hole round this morning.
As a team the Highlanders shot 303-297 for an even 600 two-round score, placing them 13th of 16 squads. Santa Clara is the current clubhouse leader with a four-under-par 572 team score, while Big West Conference opponents Cal State Northridge (574) and Long Beach State (584) are second and third respectively.
Behind Clayton, junior
Kevin Fitzgerald is tied for 48th after shooting 76-75 (151), while
Andrew Patipaksiri is tied for 60th just two strokes back of his teammate at 153 (76-77).
Freshman
Robbie Mamo and freshman
Matt Fitzgerald are tied for 71st and 88th respectively with two-round scores of 155 and 162, while sophomore
Tom Lo, playing as an individual, is tied for 21st after firing 77-70 (147).
The Highlanders conclude the tournament on Tuesday morning with an 18-hole shotgun start at 7:45 am. They are paired with Utah State, Drake, and UTSA for the final round.
