Highlanders Women's Golf Finishes Third At Firestone Grill College Invitational

Nipomo, CA - The UC Riverside women's golf team shot a tournament-low 298 third round score on Tuesday to finish in third place out of 10 teams at the Firestone Grill College Invite at Monarch Dunes Golf Course. The Highlanders carded a three-round 941 team score and were the only team all tournament to record a score under 300. Freshman Amelia Ek tied for fourth individually firing 78-79-71=228. UC Riverside used scores of 71, 72, 77, and 78 in the third round to maintain their third place standing after rounds one and two on Monday. Big West opponents Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly finished tied for first with identical 917 team scores. 

As a team the Highlanders had 25 birdies over the three rounds, the most out of any other squad in competition.

Ek led the Highlanders with her fifteen-over-par performance, while Natalie Guidry was UCR's second top-10 finisher as she placed eighth with a three-round 232 (75-80-77).

Alexandra Erdman lowered her scores each round as she tied for 12th with a 236 (83-81-72), recording eight birdies during the tournament - most out of any other player. 

Denyse Neville (pictured) tied for 37th and also posted an eagle, one of just two all tournament, while Linda Ong placed 48th. Playing as an individual, Tiffany Koyano finished 50th.

Cal Poly's Stephanie Yocum held on to her first day lead to win individual medalist honors, finishing seven-over-par with a 220 score.

The Highlanders have a week off before competing in the Aztec Fall Classic in Chula Vista, CA from Oct. 12-13.

First & Second Rounds
Nipomo, CA - The UC Riverside women's golf team is currently in third place out of 10 teams after two rounds of play on Monday at the Firestone Grill College Invitational at Monarch Dunes Golf Course. The Highlanders have two players in the top-10 as the team fired scores of 320-323 for a two-round 643. Complete Results

Junior Natalie Guidry is the Highlanders top finisher as she is currently tied for seventh place shooting 75-80 for a two-round 155. Freshman Amelia Ek is tied for ninth, two strokes back of Guidry at 157 (78-79).

Senior Alexandra Erdman fired 83-81=164 and is tied for 24th, while sophomore Denyse Neville is tied for 44th (89-83=172) and senior Linda Ong is one stroke behind her teammate at 173 (84-89). Playing as an individual, freshman Tiffany Koyano is tied for 36th with a two-round 170 (80-90).

Host Cal Poly, shooting a two-round 616 team score, has a one stroke advantage over Cal State Northridge (617), with UCR in third, Cal Baptist (644) fourth, and Santa Clara (645) fifth. Defending Big West Champion Stephanie Yocum of Cal Poly is the current individual clubhouse leader firing 77-72=149.

The tournament concludes with an 18-hole round on Tuesday morning.
