Women's Golf Takes Sixth At Lampkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational

The UC Riverside Women's Golf Team moved up two spots in the final standings Monday afternoon, leapfrogging Weber State and British Columbia to finish in sixth place at the Lampkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational. The Highlanders finished with a two-day total of 619, eight shots out of fifth and 28 strokes back of first place Cal State Northridge.

Denyse Neville entered the second day of the invitational in a tie for third place, but a second-day total of 78 dropped her back into a tie for 11th place overall. Her two-day total of 150 still led the Highlanders, who benefited from an eight-stroke improvement by Alexandra Erdman (83-75, 158) and a six-stroke improvement from Natalie Guidry (82-76, 158). Amelia Ek was the most consistent UCR golfer in the invitational shooting a 76-77, 153 to finish in a tie for 21st place.

Xavier led in the team standings after the first day of competition after shooting a 297, one stroke better than the Titans (298) and three shots ahead of Northern Arizona (300). The Musketeers' Breanna Paz notched a 71 in the initial 18 holes tying her for first place, but she fell back to a 77 on day two, allowing Cal State Northridge and Northern Arizona to pull past Xavier.

The Lumberjacks' 292 on Monday was the best team round of the invitational, but the Titans; 293 was good enough to give them a one stroke win over Northern Arizona, 591-592.
